After an eight-year hiatus, Trevor Powers revived Youth Lagoon with 2023’s ‘Heaven Is a Junkyard’. Today, Powers takes things a step further by announcing ‘Rarely Do I Dream’, a new LP set to drop on February 21, 2025, via Fat Possum. Together with the announcement he unveils new single ‘Speed Freak’.

New single ‘Speed Freak’ follows his previously shared singles ‘Football’, ‘Lucy Takes A Picture’ and ‘My Beautiful Girl’. The new track is accompanied by a music video directed by longtime collaborator Tyler T. Williams. ‘Speed Freak’ is a haunting track that combines raw electronic textures with pulsating beats, captures bij Powers delicate vocals.

About the new track he mentions.

“This song came from a thought I had of giving the angel of death a hug. We spend our whole lives running from this thing we can’t outrun. This body is temporary, but there is no death. Only transformation. A door opens when you learn to let go of the identity you’ve been building your whole life. Someone told me a couple years ago, ‘I have good news for you and I have bad news. The bad news is Trevor is doomed. There’s no hope for Trevor. The good news is — you’re not Trevor.’ When I heard that, it clicked.”

Speed Freak‘ is out now on all platforms. ‘Rarely Do I Dream’ arrives February 21 via Fat Possum.
