New York-based artist Julie Byrne is sharing a brand new single from her upcoming album ‘The Greater Wings’. Following ‘Summer Glass’ and the title track as singles, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter unveils another stunning ballad titled ‘Moonless’.
We’ll be honest and mention that we don’t often write about ballads, but even if you aren’t that much into them, we’re sure Julie Byrne’s new single ‘Moonless’ will make you stop what you are doing. It’s utterly stunning, with great lyrics and Julie’s heartfelt and soothing vocals against a subtle and hypnotic production. Julie Byrne wrote the song on an island off southern Portugal where she was taking part in an artist residency and about the new single she says:
“I remember walking through the dune systems on the ocean side of Culatra, the noises of the docks, the scent of tidal flats. The land itself, as a coastal formation, in a constant state of movement between erosion and growth. Something I love about being a songwriter, especially as a queer woman, is being able to have the last word in my work, becoming myself line by line. This is a breakup song, and it’s the first song I wrote on piano.”
‘Moonless’ is out now on all platforms. ‘The Greater Wings‘ arrives July 7th via Ghostly.
