We’ve been fans of Salty Licorice since her hearing ‘North Sea Siren’ and her debut EP ‘The Sunrise Cried’ only deepens that admiration. Out now, the six-track project is a bold, genre-blurring collection that manages to show off her many sides.
New single ‘Metanoia’ is an instant favourite, it’s delicate and devestating. Inspired by the Greek word for transformation and the risk of repeating old mistakes, the track weaves intimacy with drama, all wrapped in Salty Licorice’s haunting production style.
The new EP references the book The Spy, by Paulo Coelho, which inspired the EP’s themes and titles.
“I loved bringing this novel with me to every writing session — opening it to a random page and finding new angles to tell Mata Hari’s stories. The first thing that captured me was how fearless she’s portrayed in the book. It pushed me to write in ways I normally wouldn’t.”
Salty Licorice’s debut EP feels like the start of something big and we’re genuinely intrigued to see where she heads next.
‘The Sunrise Cried’ is out now on all platforms.
