Chiara Castello and Camilla Matly aka I’m Not A Blonde share the music video of their stellar new single “1984“. The new track follows their previous single “Circles” and are both taken from the duo’s upcoming EP “Welcome Shadows“.
From the first few seconds of “1984”, I’m Not A Blonde draws us into their synth-pop soundscape. Soothing vocals are mixed with distorted pitched down vocals giving the song a haunting feeling. This all changes when the chorus kicks in and “1984” transforms into quite an euphoric anthem with some great empowering lyrics. About the new single Chiara says:
“Writing this song I felt a strong connection with my experience and discovery of being gay as a teenager and the struggle to find my identity and to be able to express it; So I continued writing this song thinking of all the people that still have to fight for the right to love whoever they want and be whoever they are. I also connected with the fear of feeling ‘different’ and of exposing yourself to other people’s judgment. It’s a call to take by the hand the most fragile part of yourself – ‘Take my hand, fear and pride’ – and walk through these emotions and life.“
Ever since we’ve heard this song we’ve been having it on repeat and can’t get enough of it. We think lots of other people deserve to hear this infectious track as well! Be sure to give the music video directed by Antonietta Dicorato a watch below as well. We are excited to see what I’m Not A Blonde does next!
“1984” is out now on all platforms. I’m Not A Blonde’s new EP “Welcome Shadows” arrives December 10th.
